How to Fish all bosses — Complete Boss Guide

Prepare for all ten boss and special encounters with the correct islands, summon bait, safe tactics, key attacks, quest trophies, and NPC hand-ins.

Last updated:

Complete the ten Boss or special encounters by matching each island target with its supported bait, preparing ranged damage and healing, and returning every required special drop to the correct NPC. The route runs from Spider Crab at Lighthouse through Forest, Desert, Rocks, and Volcano encounters. A Boss kill alone may not advance the story because meat does not replace a required skeleton, tail, bird head, or fin. Keep the white Boss timer, safe movement route, and hand-in item in mind before every summon.

Ten-encounter checklist

This checklist combines main progression Bosses, an optional mini-Boss, and special creature triggers. Some entries use a captured creature or quest reward rather than a shop lure. Prepare the trigger and the post-fight inventory space as two separate parts of each encounter.

  • Lighthouse: Spider Crab — Empty Beer Can.
  • Forest: The Old Pike — Beginner Boss Lure.
  • Forest: Giant Piranha — Modified Leech.
  • Desert: Blue Shark — Standard Boss Lure.
  • Desert: Pufferfish — Carrot.
  • Rocks: Tuna — Professional Boss Lure.
  • Rocks: Albatross — captured Tuna.
  • Volcano: Bowhead Whale — Fish Bucket.
  • Volcano: Mutated Bowhead Whale — captured Bowhead Whale thrown into the Volcano.
  • Volcano: Goblin Shark — Scientific Boss Lure.

Lighthouse: Spider Crab

Speak with the Lighthouse Keeper and complete the required beer hand-in to receive Empty Beer Can. Use that item to summon Spider Crab, then stay close enough to provoke its charge. Sidestep the rush and fire during the short stun after it misses.

Do not kite too far away because a long jump can become less predictable and waste the decreasing white Boss timer. Early progression supports buying a basic melee weapon and improving it before this fight, but the core tactic is still bait, sidestep, and punish. After the kill, return the required meat or trophy to the Keeper to receive the boat key.

Forest: The Old Pike

The Old Pike is an optional mini-Boss summoned with Beginner Boss Lure. It thrashes around the player and attacks with its tail, making it useful as an early practice encounter for movement and achievements. A Shotgun makes its manageable damage easier to answer.

This fight can also help build money for later weapons and upgrades. It is not the Modified Leech story hand-in and should not be confused with Giant Piranha progression. Treat it as practice and preparation rather than a replacement for the Forest quest chain.

Forest: Giant Piranha

Find three Leeches on the central Forest ground and give them to the lake-side Forest NPC to receive Modified Leech. Reload ranged weapons, restore health, and throw the special bait from shore while leaving room to move onto flat ground. Keep edible food available before the swarm begins.

Small Piranhas are the immediate threat, so remove nearby juveniles before they surround you and then return damage to the Boss. Sidestep Giant Piranha's leap, keep away from the water edge, and remember that it can jump back out after falling into the lake. A defeated small fish can be eaten for healing, but do not spend the whole white timer chasing the swarm.

After the Boss dies, clear the remaining juveniles and search for the separate skeleton or special trophy. Ordinary meat is not the Forest story item. Return the trophy to the Forest NPC to receive the next-island coordinate.

Desert: Blue Shark

Use Standard Boss Lure on Desert for Blue Shark. The encounter uses a spinning or spiral charge, so create distance and move sideways instead of remaining in its line. A Shotgun and an early ammunition upgrade make the fight safer.

Defeating Blue Shark activates the grill in the recorded progression. The NPC near the grill also provides the lighter, allowing cooked fish to sell with the improved multiplier described by the walkthrough. Keep that unlock distinct from the Pufferfish route on the same island.

Desert: Pufferfish

Speak with the Tourist near the tree, catch the required Endangered creature with Standard Lure, and exchange the accepted catch for Carrot. Use the current task tag and NPC response; a Drip label by itself may not satisfy the objective. The Carrot is the Pufferfish trigger.

Before casting, rehearse a wide loop around trees or rocks with no shoreline or dead end closing the route. Pufferfish rolls quickly, grows as it takes damage, and later leaves a purple toxic trail. Keep solid terrain between you and its charge, fire during blocked direction changes, enlarge the circle as it grows, and avoid crossing the residue.

After the kill, search for the small tail or tail-fin trophy among the meat. Return the special drop to the Tourist for the next coordinate. Killing Pufferfish without the correct hand-in does not finish the island's story step.

Rocks: Tuna

Use Professional Boss Lure to catch Tuna on Rocks. The arena is cramped, so a full dodge can be difficult and careless movement can close the escape route. Wait for the leap, evade it, and return fire with the Shotgun.

Additional ammunition upgrades make the limited space less punishing. The captured Tuna also has a second role, so preserve it for the Albatross trigger instead of treating it as an ordinary final catch. The next encounter begins by placing that Tuna on the island.

Rocks: Albatross

Drop the captured Tuna on the ground to summon Albatross. The bird remains at range and drops damaging waste, so use cover while it is distant and shoot during its throw or flight windows. A Sniper Rifle is better suited to the range, and an Uzi is also mentioned, while a Shotgun is a poor long-range choice.

After the fight, locate the bird head required by the Rocks shop NPC. Return that special item to unlock the Volcano coordinate. Ordinary drops do not substitute for the bird head.

Volcano: Bowhead Whale

The yellow-suit scientist first asks for five local creatures caught with Scientific Lure. Complete enough hand-ins to receive Fish Bucket, then prepare a highly upgraded Assault Rifle and healing food. Use Fish Bucket to summon Bowhead Whale.

Run as soon as the whale rises into the air because its falling body can crush the player. Keep moving, maintain an escape path, and heal when necessary instead of standing underneath for extra damage. After the kill, preserve the captured Bowhead Whale for the mutation sequence.

Volcano: Mutated Bowhead Whale

Carry Bowhead Whale to the top using the plank route and throw it into the Volcano. This triggers Mutated Bowhead Whale, whose body drops lava and can make contact lethal. Move continuously and keep a clear route away from the falling hazards.

The military base can be used for healing when possible. After the final kill, find the required fin and return it to the scientist. The supported progression awards the military boat key and leads back toward the mainland ending.

Volcano: Goblin Shark

Goblin Shark is identified as the Volcano scientific Boss target and uses Scientific Boss Lure. The permitted Boss material does not provide a separate attack-pattern walkthrough for this encounter. Record the location and bait, then verify its current behavior directly in the game.

Do not copy tactics from Bowhead Whale or another Boss and present them as Goblin Shark mechanics. Shared island placement does not prove shared attacks, rewards, or movement. To be confirmed: Goblin Shark's current attack pattern, safe windows, and special drops require in-game verification.

Final hand-in audit

Before leaving an island, confirm both the Boss death and the NPC hand-in. The supported progression distinguishes ordinary meat from the required Forest skeleton, Desert tail, Rocks bird head, and Volcano fin. Spider Crab likewise requires the Keeper's correct post-fight item before the boat key is awarded.

Alternate sandbox tactics can work, but they do not change the required story item. Keep one checklist row for the bait, one for the kill, and one for the special drop return. Current health, damage, prices, timers, and patch-sensitive behavior should always be checked in the live build.
