How to Fish all islands: Unlock Order and Route
Follow the five-location unlock order from Lighthouse to Volcano, with every Radar marker, boss objective, quest trophy, and required NPC hand-in.
Last updated:
The normal story has five accessible locations in this order: Lighthouse → Forest → Desert → Rocks → Volcano, followed by the mainland ending route. Each new location is progression-locked behind a Boss or request, its unique trophy, an NPC hand-in, and the next Radar marker. A community-observed secret or developer area is not a required sixth story island.
Island order at a glance
The route begins at Lighthouse and adds four islands through completed story hand-ins. Radar color and direction are more reliable for normal navigation than copied speedrun alignment because boat collisions, physics, and approach angle can change a crossing. Always check Radar after the NPC accepts the required trophy.
| Order | Location | Radar direction or color | Required progression | | ----: | ---------- | ----------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- | | 1 | Lighthouse | Starting location | Spider Crab trophy → boat key and Radar | | 2 | Forest | Northwest; green marker | Three Leeches → Giant Piranha trophy | | 3 | Desert | West of Forest; yellow marker | Endangered catch → Carrot → Pufferfish trophy | | 4 | Rocks | West of Desert; red marker | Tuna on land → Albatross head | | 5 | Volcano | North of Rocks; pink marker | Scientist requests → Bowhead Whale sequence → final trophy |
The names Island 2 through Island 5 can be useful when a guide, map note, or localization differs from the terrain name. The required order does not change just because Forest is described as swamp terrain or Desert as a palm island. Use the current objective, trophy, and Radar marker together to identify your stage.
1. Lighthouse
Lighthouse is the starting location and the point where the boat route opens. Help Lighthouse Keeper with the stolen-beer task, use Empty Beer Can to summon Spider Crab, and defeat it. Pick up the special quest drop and return it to Lighthouse Keeper rather than leaving with ordinary remains.
Completing the hand-in provides the boat key, after which Radar should be purchased before searching the sea. Radar does not need to function like a perfectly precise map to show the next colored direction. When the full task is complete, use its new marker to travel northwest toward Forest.
2. Forest
Forest lies northwest of Lighthouse and appears through the green Radar marker after the Spider Crab hand-in. The terrain is described as forest or swamp, and the quest NPC is near the lake area. Speak to that NPC before searching so the collection objective is active.
Find three Leeches as tiny ground pickups in grass, return them, and receive the modified story bait. Use it to summon Giant Piranha, defeat the Boss and spawned smaller piranhas, then search the remains carefully. Return the distinctive exposed-skeleton trophy accepted by the lake-side NPC to receive Island 3 coordinates.
3. Desert
Desert is west of Forest and is shown by a yellow Radar marker. It can also be recognized as Island 3 or the palm island, and its route includes Shark and Grill work before the main Tourist exchange. Follow the active tasks rather than assuming any ordinary catch will advance the island.
Inspect catches for the Endangered tag and give the complete qualifying creature to Tourist. Tourist gives Carrot, which summons Pufferfish when used. After the fight, return the distinctive tail, fin, or bone-shaped trophy to the NPC beside the tree so the fourth-island coordinate appears.
4. Rocks
Rocks lies west of Desert and is represented by the red Radar marker. Use Professional Boss Lure for Tuna, then place the Tuna on land to attract Terrorizing Bird, also identified in the source as Albatross. The Tuna is part of the trigger and should not be sold before the event occurs.
Defeat the bird and collect its head as the unique story trophy. Give the head to the shop NPC to unlock the Volcano or military route. Check Radar after the hand-in and preserve food, ammunition, and stronger equipment for the final island.
5. Volcano
Volcano lies north of Rocks and appears through the pink Radar marker. The Scientist first requests five small creatures, and Scientific Lure is used as required to complete that collection. The reward is Fish Bucket, which summons Bowhead Whale and begins the final Whale sequence.
Moving the required Whale target into Volcano advances the fight to Mutated Bowhead Whale. After defeating the final Boss, collect the correct fin or unique story trophy rather than only meat. Follow Radar back toward the mainland and deliver the trophy to the correct right-side NPC to trigger the ending.
Why an island marker may be missing
The coordinate chain is locked by completed hand-ins, not only by Boss deaths. If the next marker does not appear, return to the last arena, search the drops, and bring the distinctive trophy back to the NPC who issued the request. Ordinary fish meat cannot replace a story item.
Check these blockers in order:
- Finish every active line of the assigning NPC's dialogue.
- Confirm that the required bait or summon item came from the story objective.
- Search the Boss remains for a separate trophy with a distinctive appearance.
- Give the item to the correct NPC and wait for the reward step.
- Open Radar only after the hand-in and look for the newly added color marker.
Giant Piranha and Pufferfish trophy names vary in the retained guide text and may also differ by localization. Treat exposed-bone, tail, or fin appearance plus actual NPC acceptance as the robust confirmation. If the NPC rejects ordinary chunks, return to the arena or your carried items and locate the unique component.
Navigation and route preparation
Normal travel should follow Radar colors because copied compass angles from a speedrun can be affected by collision physics, sun direction, and randomness. Extra players can carry supplies, but a cooperative resource plan does not alter the island unlock order. Boat speed helps repeated crossings only after the next Boss equipment and bait are covered.
Before leaving Rocks for Volcano, preserve healing and prepare stronger ammunition because the final fights are documented as difficult. Planks and terrain can help with positioning near Volcano, but a Boss-skip route is a speedrun technique rather than a normal unlock requirement. The story remains Scientist collection, Bowhead Whale, Mutated Bowhead Whale, trophy, then mainland.
Secret or Developer Island status
A distant red marker and a casino-roof area have been observed by the community, but this location is outside the five-island story chain. It is not required for completion and should not be presented as a normally unlockable sixth island. A distant red mark alone therefore does not mean the main quest remains unfinished.
Older boundary-breaking methods attempted to move a late Boss or mutated whale across the sea, but the retained v1.0.4 check says the route no longer worked reliably. Patch 1.0.5 also addressed unintended travel to islands before their unlock, making old-version or save-edit instructions version-sensitive and unofficial. Any future official access method is To be confirmed.
After the mainland ending
The same save remains useful after the story ends. Missing ordinary creatures, Drip variants, cosmetics, achievements, Reel of Fortune, Roulette, and special movement or kill goals can be completed across the five official locations. These optional objectives do not add another required island to the documented progression chain.
